Americans will have to deal with a tough job market for a long time. One year from now, the unemployment rate is expected to remain above 10 percent in 16 states, according to an analysis by research group IHS Global Insight. While an improving economy has helped fuel a stock market rally this year, lingering unemployment will likely mean subdued consumer spending and lower profits in the coming year. That could keep a lid on stocks.
