REYKJAVIK, Iceland (AP) — Iceland's Bardarbunga volcano began erupting Saturday under the country's largest glacier after a week of seismic activity rattled the area with thousands of earthquakes, the country's Meteorological Office said.

ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) — In a story Aug. 22 about new cases of Ebola in Nigeria, The Associated Press reported erroneously in headlines that deaths from Ebola in Liberia topped 1,000. Deaths did not top 1,000 in Liberia, but cases of Ebola in Liberia did.
Israeli airstrike hits Gaza City apartment tower
GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — Palestinian police say Israeli warplanes have fired two missiles at an apartment tower in central Gaza City, sending a huge ball of fire and a black cloud of smoke into the air.
