4 women accuse Everett mayor of sexual harassment
EVERETT, Mass. (AP) — Four women have accused Everett Mayor Carlo DeMaria of sexual harassment over the past decade.
The Boston Globe reported Sunday (http://bit.ly/1lqf08u ) that DeMaria rejected the allegations and suggested that opponents of a proposed casino could be spreading falsehoods about him.
Wynn Resorts has proposed a $1.6 billion resort in Everett as it competes with Mohegan Sun for the sole state gambling license for the Boston area.
The Globe reports that the women accuse DeMaria of sexual overtures and unwanted attention for months or years. None of the women has sued.
The women said DeMaria seemed to become infatuated with them. One woman, who is a former city worker, said the mayor called her to his office for no apparent reason and sent her text messages after she resigned asking her to call him.
