WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — Grammy-winning folk musician Doc Watson has regained some strength after undergoing colon surgery at a North Carolina hospital.Agent Mitch Greenhill of Folklore Productions said in an email Friday that Watson is resting and responsive following the surgery Thursday at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem. A hospital spokeswoman said he remained in critical condition Friday afternoon.

HIGH SHOALS, N.C. (AP) — The body of a missing Lincoln County man has been found in the South Fork River near High Shoals.Lincoln County Sheriff David Carpenter said the body found Thursday afternoon has been identified as 37-year-old Keith Roland Boyte of Lincolnton.

(AP) — Pat McCrory's campaign and the political committees behind a television commercial McCrory says is false filed competing legal actions that raise the ante in North Carolina's gubernatorial race.The Democratic Governors Association and the group North Carolina Citizens for Progress filed a complaint in Wake County court asking a judge to rule the commercial about McCrory's connections to a Charlotte-based business as true and constitutionally protected.

WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) — A new television series from executive producer J.J. Abrams that will air this fall on NBC will be shot in the Wilmington area.Officials with the Wilmington Regional Film Commission said the Warner Bros. Television series "Revolution" will begin filming in the area this summer. The website for the show says it's about life 15 years after the world loses all electricity.
