Fire chief: 1 dead in Laconia apartment house fire
LACONIA, N.H. (AP) — The fire chief in Laconia, N.H., says one man died in an overnight fire that destroyed a six-unit apartment building.
Fire Chief Kenneth Erickson told WMUR-TV (http://bit.ly/1hf9LDm) that the man's body was found Wednesday morning in an apartment at the center of the building.
Authorities believe the fire started on the back porch around 11 p.m. Tuesday. By Wednesday morning, the roof had burned away and the second floor had caved in. One neighbor, Max Kopacz, said he ran over before firefighters arrived and knocked on doors to alert residents.
It's unclear how many people were displaced.
