It's in the history books. The Dow Jones industrial average closed at a record high of 14,253.77 Tuesday.
Consumers fueled the stocks that have led the market since the Dow's last record. Home Depot, McDonald's and Wal-Mart are among the top four performers, each rising more than 60 percent since October 2007. The strength of consumers is also reflected in the broader Standard & Poor's 500 index. Companies that supply consumer staples and discretionary goods led the 10 sectors within the index.Associated Press
