The Dow Jones industrial average is leading the major stock market indexes this year, through Monday. The 11 percent climb of the blue-chip average is topped by the 64 percent surge of Hewlett-Packard. After finishing last among the 30 Dow stocks in 2012 with a 45 percent decline, CEO Meg Whitman’s turnaround efforts have helped the computer company rise to the top.
The broader Standard & Poor’s 500 index is up 10 percent for 2013 through Monday. The Nasdaq composite, which is weighted heavily toward tech stocks, is just behind with a 7 percent gain.Associated Press
