Minor quake shakes parts of southern Utah
PANGUITCH, Utah (AP) — A minor earthquake shook portions of southern Utah late Saturday morning, but there were no reports of damage.
The University of Utah Seismograph Stations says the epicenter of the magnitude-4.0 temblor was beneath the southern part of the town of Panguitch, on the eastern edge of the Markagunt Plataeu.
The 10 a.m. earthquake was reported felt mainly in Panguitch. A magnitude-2.3 aftershock occurred nine minutes later.
Four more aftershocks followed within an hour after the quake.
The Panguitch Fire Department and the Garfield County Sheriff's Office report receiving calls about the quake from the public but nothing about damages or injuries.
Fire Chief Dave Dodds says the quake lasted between three and four seconds.
Seismologists say 25 earthquakes of magnitude-3.0 or greater have occurred in the area since 1962.Associated Press
