(AP) — Officials say a Maine pilot is dead after his single-engine plane crash in Limington shortly after takeoff.

York County authorities say pilot Clarke Tate of Gray was the only person on board the 1942 Culver two-seat airplane when the crash occurred Saturday afternoon.

WGME (http://bit.ly/U1YQET ) quotes officials as saying the plane crashed right after it took off from Limington-Harmon Airport, bound for Auburn/Lewiston Airport.

The plane is registered to Tate, who investigators say was an experienced pilot.

Federal aviation officials are investigating the cause of the crash.
