COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — University of South Carolina President Harris Pastides (Pas-TEE-Dees) wants to overhaul Carolina Coliseum.
The State newspaper reported Pastides said in his annual state of the university address Tuesday that he wants to find new uses for the 49-year-old coliseum that was the home court of the school's basketball teams in the heyday of Coach Frank McGuire.
The university president did not provide details on the plan or how much the changes would cost. He hinted it could become a second student union building as the school grows to the west of the downtown campus.
The school proposed a $125 million plan for the building in 2013 that would have included an additional student union, classrooms and student services.
Carolina Coliseum was replaced by the Colonial Life Arena in 2002.
