What Does This Company Do?

Verizon is the incumbent local phone company, serving 25% of the U.S. population, and it owns a long-haul network that reaches cities around the world. Verizon Wireless, which the firm now wholly owns, serves about 109 million retail wireless connections (smartphones, tablets, and so on) across the U.S. Verizon has consistently spun off assets in the recent past, including its directories unit in 2006 and pockets of local phone operations in 2008 and 2010. The firm has announced plans to sell another set of fixed-line assets to Frontier.
