Northrop Grumman is one of the five prime defense contractors to the U.S. government. It generated $25 billion in 2012 sales reported along four segments: aerospace systems (37% of 2012 sales before intersegment eliminations), electronic systems (25%), information systems (27%), and technical services (11%). The company is headquartered in Washington, D.C., with 72,500 employees as of year-end 2011. On March 31, 2011, the firm spun off its shipbuilding business as Huntington Ingalls.
